Mesut Ozil and Angel Di Maria regret leaving Real Madrid as star duo target La Liga return
Di Maria exited Real in 2014, one year after Ozil left the Champions League winners.
Arsenal star Mesut Ozil and Paris Saint-Germain attacker Angel Di Maria are regretting their decision to leave Real Madrid. The duo are looking at returning to the Spanish capital club and have offered themselves to the Champions League winners.
Real signed Gareth Bale from Tottenham Hotspur in 2013 and in the same summer transfer window, they allowed the German international to leave the club. Ozil left the La Liga giants and made a switch to the Emirates as the Gunners signed him for a club-record fee of £42.5m ($53.3m).
A year later, Di Maria was also forced to leave Santiago Bernabeu and was signed by Manchester United for £59.7m ($74.7m). The former Benfica man struggled in his debut season under Louis van Gaal and was allowed to leave Old Trafford after one year. He signed for the Ligue 1 winners last summer.
According to the Spanish publication Marca, both Ozil and Di Maria are planning to leave their current employers and plan a return to La Liga. The duo have been key players at Real and were forced to offload by the 11-time European champions.
The Argentine international played a key role in helping Real achieve La Decima success under Carlo Ancelotti's guidance. They defeated their neighbours Atletico Madrid in the final, a feat they repeated in the last season to win their record 11th European trophy.
Real president Florentino Perez and other top senior officials at the club have been made aware of the star duo's desire to return to Spain. The two players have continued to shine at Arsenal and PSG, which has prompted their former club to consider a possibility.
Di Maria was unhappy both on and off the pitch during his time at United, forcing him to leave the 20-time English champions and join the French giants. However, the South American is also unhappy with the style of play at Parc des Princes and is targeting a return to Real.
