Mesut Ozil confident Arsenal can do the job against Bayern
Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil is optimistic of Arsenal's chances against Bayern Munich in the Champions League if they can replicate their performance against Manchester United. The Gunners blitzed through the Red Devils in a brief 20-minute period when they took a 3-0 lead and sat out the rest of the game trying to play on the counter.
The Gunners have made a disastrous start to their Champions League campaign, losing their first two games against Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiacos owing to individual errors and some shoddy defending. The results mean that the north London club are currently bottom of the group and face two back-to- back games against Bayern in the group stages, against whom they have won one and lost twice in their last four meetings in the round of 16 ties of the Champions League.
However, Ozil is confident that they have the quality to stun any team on their day but it will take a much improved performance than what they have been delivering over the past two weeks in Europe. The German scored his first goal in the league and also notched up an assist as the Gunners thumped United, providing a marker for the rest of the teams in the league to take them seriously.
"It is true that there is a lot of pressure on us in the Champions League. We can beat Bayern, though, if we play at the same level as against Manchester United," Ozil is quoted as saying by the Mirror. "I was a bit surprised to see Bayern beat Dortmund 5-1. Bayern's results show that they are in great form. We have a lot of respect for Bayern, but we are not afraid of them. We are playing at home and we know how to score goals and be successful against Bayern. Of course, it will not be easy, but we have the potential to beat any team."
