Overview

Nadal kick-starts his 2014 Sony Open Tennis campaign directly in the second round of the competition.

The world number one has never lifted the trophy in Miami throughout his career despite reaching the final on three occasions; losing against Roger Federer, Nikolay Davydenko and Novak Djokovic in 2005, 2008 and 2011 respectively.

Hewitt overcame Dutchman Robin Haase in his first round clash last Thursday thereby winning his 600th match across all ATP Tournaments. The Australian is the third active player to reach that milestone with Federer and Nadal being the top two with 942 and 675 wins respectively.

Hewitt went down 3-6 in the first set but managed to rally back in the second set to win 6-3. The 33-year-old finally got the better of Haase in the final set, 6-3, to secure his progress in a match that nearly lasted for two hours.

Nadal is one of the favourites to progress into the next round but Hewitt's experience cannot be taken out of the equation. The former world number one has faced the Spaniard 10 times over the last decade but 27-year-old has come a long way since their first meeting in 2004.

Head-To-Head

Nadal holds a 6-4 lead against Hewitt in overall meetings. The two have faced each other six times in grand slam events where the Spaniard has a 4-2 lead. In the last five meetings between the pair, Nadal has prevailed on all occasions.
