Singer Michael Bublé is to be honoured with the National Arts Centre Award in Ottawa.

The Governor General of Canada will present the prestigious award to the 41-year-old during a live telecast on June 28.

The National Arts Centre president told ABC News that the awards is presented to someone each year 'in recognition of recent exceptional work by a performing artist".

In the statement, the president added: "We are delighted that Michael Bublé and his family are doing so well, and that they will be joining us. All of Canada wishes the Bublé family the very best," he added.

The occasion sees the singer return to the spotlight for the first time since he cancelled all professional commitments after his three-year-old son, Noah, was diagnosed with liver cancer last November.

In a statement shared on Michael's Facebook page in November, he wrote that he and his wife had put their "careers on hold in order to devote all our time and attention to helping Noah get well".

Successful chemotherapy treatment

Bublé pulled out of presenting the Brit Awards in December as he and his family supported their young son through his illness.

At the time it was reported that Noah has a 90% of beating his cancer. He reportedly endured four months of chemotherapy to shrink the tumour, after which he underwent surgery to remove it.

After undergoing the treatment in the US, Noah is now said to be doing well, Mail Online reports.

A few weeks earlier his mother, Luisiana Lopilato, returned with her family to Argentina, where she spoke at a press conference to give an update on her son's health and to thank fans who had sent messages of support for Noah, ever since news of his illness was first made public .

"Thank God, my son is well. When things like those that happened to us occur, your take on life changes," she said.

"It happened to us. Now I value life much more, the now and the today. I would like to thank people for their support, for the prayers they said, for their love," she said.

Michael and Lusiana are also parents to one-year-old Elias.
