Michigan: Police 'uncertain' over mystery of young couple who died as they sat down to eat dinner
Although drug paraphernalia was found, the couple showed no signs of trauma and apartment was undisturbed.
Police in the US State of Michigan are trying to discover how a young married couple died in their apartment as they were about to eat a fast food dinner.
The bodies of Cameron Hulet, 28, and wife Courtney, 20, were found in an apartment in the small town of Dundee, MunroeCounty, south of Detroit. Neither had sustained any wounds and the apartment did not appear to have been broken into.
They were reportedly surrounded by drug paraphernalia when found and around a pound (0.5kg) of marijuana which was apparently being divided up for selling, although police are unsure of what actually caused the death of the couple at the time, which is being treated as 'sudden'.
A neighbour of the Hulets saw the couple unconscious on the floor and thought they had both fallen asleep, but alerted police when they returned and saw both were still motionless. Cameron was found lying on his side and Courtney face-down.
Dundee Village Manager, Dave Uhl, said. ""It's really a puzzle. There is no indication as to what happened. It's a mystery."
According to reports, two young children had recently been removed from the young couple's care by Child Protective Services, though the actual circumstances of the removal are unclear.
Cameron Hulet had a number of prior convictions for drug and driving offences and assault, the local Monroe News reported. The couple are thought to have lived in the apartment for around six weeks.
In a Facebook post, local police said: "Dundee Police Department responded to the 100 block of Riley Street at around 11:53 p.m. on Tuesday for a report of two deceased subjects inside of a residence. Officer Frank Nadeau found Cameron Hulet, 28, and his wife Courtney Hulet, 20, lying on the living room floor of their home. Neighbors found the couple Tuesday morning, but initially thought they were just passed out.
"Drug paraphernalia and suspected marijuana was found in the home. The couple have two children, but they were in the custody of Children Protective Services at the time of the couple's death. The couple was from Newport and had only been living in Dundee for approximately the past six months."
There have been several cases in the US of couples overdosing on drugs and being filmed slumped in cars or on sidewalks, sometimes when supposedly caring for children.
In one case in East Liverpool, Ohio, 47-year-old James Lee Acord and 50-year-old Rhonda L Pasek were filmed unconscious as a four-year-old boy sat in the back seat of their car.
