Microsoft confirms launch of high-end Lumia phones
Microsoft has confirmed that it will launch in the near future new Lumia phones featuring premium specs, challenging the likes of Apple's iPhone, Samsung, HTC among others.
In a keynote statement at the ongoing Worldwide Partner Conference, Terry Myerson, head of Microsoft's Windows and devices unit said that the new Lumia handsets will run Windows 10 Mobile out of the box, according to a Windows Central report.
Windows Central believes the technology giant could reveal more about the new Lumia phones at the upcoming IFA conference starting in Berlin on 4 September.
Myerson's statement confirms earlier reports that hinted at Microsoft releasing six new Lumia smartphones, including one that features a front-facing LED Flash.
The Redmond-based company's latest announcement comes after a recent survey by comScore showed dismal market share of Windows Phone in the US.
According to comScore, Windows Phone held a 3.0% market share in the US, losing 0.5% between February and May 2015.
Google's Android continued to dominate market share in the US with a whopping 52.1% share, despite a marginal drop.
Microsoft is yet to reveal the technical specifications of the newer Lumia handsets.
