Microsoft introduces new features for Gmail in Windows 10 Mail and Calendar apps
The update for Gmail includes focused inbox, travel reservations and package deliveries.
Microsoft has introduced new features for Gmail in Windows 10 Mail and Calendar apps. The improved experience will first be rolled out to Windows Insiders over the next few weeks, and then gradually become available for all Windows 10 users.
The upcoming update will bring all the features and capabilities available on Outlook and Office 365 to Gmail account. They include focused inbox, travel reservations and package deliveries.
However, before adding the new features, users would be asked to sync a copy of email, calendar and contacts to Microsoft Cloud. This will update the Gmail with creation, edit, or deletion of email, calendar events and contacts.
The changes would first be made available to Mail and Calendar users who are part of Microsoft's Windows Insider programme. After that, the changes will be rolled out over the next few weeks. Users will receive prompts to update their Gmail account settings. In case you miss the first prompt for some reason, you will be reminded again in a few weeks.
Vivek Kumar, product marketing manager at Windows 10 Mail & Calendar apps, noted in a statement released on the official WindowsBlog on 21 April: "We're excited for bringing an improved Mail & Calendar experience to your Gmail account, and welcome your feedback as we fine tune the new experience in the coming weeks. You can provide feedback on this and other Mail & Calendar features at any time by going to Settings> Feedback in the app."
