Microsoft Selfie app brings intelligent enhancements to self-portraits on iOS
Microsoft has released a new Selfie app for iOS which adds value to self-portraits captured on an iPhone. It improves image quality, enhances skin tone, colour balance and optimises lighting adjustments, thus ensuring you get the best selfie.
Called Microsoft Selfie, the app is designed to make intelligent enhancements to selfies using "machine learning capabilities". According to reports, the app works similar to Microsoft's new software that predicts the age of a person based on a photo.
The app's official description on iTunes reads as follows: "...The app takes age, gender, skin tone, lighting, and many other variables into account, applies different models automatically and finishes enhancement with just a single click. Users can transform average photos into more presentable portraits in seconds. Key features of this application are noise reduction, intelligent enhancement, automatic exposure and color theme."
The app boasts of 13 new filter options including noise and colour filters. One can compare a new selfie with those taken from a non-optimised app for the iPhone to see the potential of Microsoft's new app. The app weighing around 56MB is now available for free via iTunes App Store on iPad, iPhone, and the iPod Touch.
