Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth 'fighting to save their relationship'

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth are said to be fighting to save their relationship. The Hollywood couple's relationship status has been the focus of ongoing speculation following reports that the pair's endless feuding has prompted Liam to break-off their engagement for a second time.

The pair first began dating in June 2009 after starring together in romance drama The Last Song. Three years later they announced their engagement, but they ended their relationship in September 2013.

In January the former Disney star was seen flashing her Neil Lane designed diamond ring after the A-list couple reconnected in Australia. And the pop star flashed the rock again in late February as she landed in New York City to start filming a Woody Allen movie. However, more recently, she appears to have taken off the rock amid reports that Liam has had enough of her excessive marijuana usage.

While the couple have not spoken out about their relationship troubles, an insider told HollywoodLife.com that they're doing everything they can make it work this time around.

"It is not a perfect relationship but it still is a relationship. At the end of the day they are in love with each other but still have a lot of work to do to make things great. They get into fights but one thing they are making sure to do is to keep their relationship separate from their careers. They didn't do that last time and that is what made the relationship fizzle. But they are really being careful to make it work this time. It is a process they definitely want to succeed with."

While it was thought the couple had set up home together in Malibu, Miley added fuel to the rumours she has split from The Hunger Games actor with a series of cryptic Instagram posts.

In one Instagram picture, Cyrus, 23, can be seen holding a message which reads: "Live through consciousness, not through emotion," while another shows her left hand clearly missing the ring she has worn over the last couple of months on her engagement finger. Alluding to her melancholic mood, another photo of Cyrus' cat is accompanied with the caption: "When life is simple for animals it is beautiful."
