Liam Hemsworth recently broke his silence on his reconciliation with Miley Cyrus but it seems that setting the record straight on rumours that their engagement is back on may have landed him in the dog house. According to Entertainment Weekly, the Wrecking Ball songstress shrugged off the denial by spending time with a mystery man.

Cyrus was reportedly seen driving through Malibu with a mystery male friend hours after it emerged that The Hunger Games star publicly clarified their relationship status telling told Australia's TV Week "I am not engaged, no".

The sighting come just days after Cyrus and Hemsworth made their first public appearance together at the premiere of his brother's new film, The Huntsman: Winter's War, their first outing at a public event since reconciling in December 2015.

Although they did not walk the red carpet together, a fan named Kayla Hockman caught them backstage and shared snaps on twitter along with the caption: "Miley and Liam are totes back together, FYI."

A source told Hollywood Life that the pair are struggling to move forward because they are on different pages: "Miley feels that they are engaged and will get married, Liam is happy as well in the relationship but he believes that he would have to ask for her hand in marriage again to make it official again."

The insider added: "He is more traditional, where Miley is resorting back to the relationship they had before they broke up. So it really depends on who you ask. He didn't mean it as a diss towards Miley. They just have different ideas where they officially stand right now."

To make matters worse, it has been claimed that the relationship has already hit a rocky patch after she accidentally sent Hemsworth a sext meant for her former girlfriend Victoria's Secret model Stella Maxwell. "She immediately apologised," a source told Hollywood Life.

"Miley also admitted to meeting up with Stella, but she swore to Liam that it was just innocent flirting. Liam didn't believe her. They fought and he told her to take the ring off. After only a few months of being back together, it's already coming to an end."
