Milly Dowler Killer 'Converts' To Islam and Changes Name To Mohammed In Jail

The killer of schoolgirl Milly Dowler has converted to Islam and has changed his name in jail, it has been reported.

Levi Bellfield, 43, is now called Mohammed, prays to Allah five times a day and only eats halal meat.

Staff at Wakefield prison, in West Yorkshire, believe that Bellfield has only changed his faith in order to receive special treatment.

It is also believed that he has converted to Islam to impress a group of Muslim extremists have been causing problems since he has been incarcerated.

"His diet must be cooked to halal guidelines. It is generally accepted the food is better. The guards are convinced ­Bellfield is doing this for better meals and a cushier life," an insider told the Daily Mirror.

"He has the right to pray five times a day so it gives him a break. Some staff think he may have become a Muslim to impress the extremists he had trouble with."

Bellfield has repeatedly complained to staff at the prison about his personal safety. He has already been attacked by a fellow inmate with a makeshift weapon outside one of the prison's bathrooms last September.

The triple murderer is serving a second life sentence after being found guilty of the murder of Milly Dowling, 13, in March 2002.

He was already in jail for murdering Marsha McDonnell, 19, in 2003 and Amelie Delagrange, 22, as well as attempting to murder Kate Sheedy, 18, in 2004
