'Misogynistic pig': Twitter blasts Trump after he tells French first lady she's 'in such good shape'
'You're the president Mr. Trump. Stop treating it like you're in a frat,' one Twitter user wrote.
US President Donald Trump has once again drawn fierce criticism over his comments on women's appearances. Shortly after France's first couple, President Emmanuel Macron and Brigitte Macron, welcomed Trump and First Lady Melania Trump at Les Invalides in Paris on Thursday (13 July), Trump turned to compliment the first lady of France saying she was "in such good shape".
"You're in such good shape," Trump, 71, told the first lady, 64, before turning to President Macron and said: "She's in such good physical shape."
He then looked back at the French first lady and added: "Beautiful".
It is unclear what Brigitte Macron said in response to Trump's comments.
The exchange, which took place during a tour of Hôtel National des Invalides where Napoleon Bonaparte and other French war heroes are buried, was broadcast live on the French presidential Facebook account.
A clip of the encounter soon went viral and drew massive criticism on social media with many people furiously slamming the president's remarks as "sexist" and "grossly inappropriate".
American singer-songwriter Bill Madden tweeted: "In front of President Macron, misogynist pig Trump reduces Macron's wife to a 'sex object'."
"You're the president Mr. Trump. Stop treating it like you're in a frat," one Twitter user wrote. Another tweeted: "That was a dirty old man making unsolicited comments about the physical appearance of the wife of the president of France."
"He has zero class," one person said. "What an inappropriate statement to make about any man's wife, but in this setting it's so damn vulgar."
Others focused on his bizarre handshake with Brigitte Macron earlier in the day.
"Why was Trump trying to rip off the arm of Macron's wife?" one Twitter user wrote. Another tweeted: "Please learn how to shake hands appropriately! What the hell is wrong with you man?"
