Miss Universe 2013 National Costume Competition: Miss Nicaragua Nastassja Bolivar Announced Winner
Miss Nicaragua Nastassja Bolivar won the national costume contest for Miss Universe 2013 held on 3 November at Vegas Mall in Moscow, Russia.
The 25-year-old candidate who grew up in Miami, Florida will also receive $5,000 USD credit from the Russian Standard Bank. The winner was judged by the Blue Ribbon committee.
This year's contestants dressed in outfits meant to represent their home nations in the best way possible.
Miss Philippines Ariella Arida, who is a strong contender to win the title, had failed to impress in this round. The 24-year-old wore a Philippine traditional dress, terno, reportedly designed by Stella Araneta, the pageant director and organiser of Binibining Pilipinas.
Meanwhile, Miss USA Erin Brady opted for Transformers inspired national costume, reportedly designed by Martin Izquierdo, a costume designer at Victoria's Secret.
Though it received mixed reactions, the 24-year-old took to Twitter to defend the outfit.
"Nothing screams national costume like the first Miss USA transformer. Embracing powerful women in a transforming country that's made up of so much. That's what Miss USA means to me," Brady tweeted.
The Miss Universe final pageant will be held at Crocus City Hall in Moscow on 9 November.
