Qualifying Review
Defending champion Jorge Lorenzo continued his form from last season, as he ensured he will start the opening race of season in pole position. This was the Spaniard's fourth Qatar Grand Prix pole position and the 62nd pole of his career, which is highest ever in MotoGP history.
Honda's Marc Marquez qualified in second place with a lap time of 1:54.634s, while Maverick Vinales of team Suzuki finished in third, putting three different makers on the front row.
Seven-time champion Valentino Rossi qualified in the fifth place. The Italian, though, created controversy, when he was seen gesturing at team-mate Lorenzo after going past him. The two continued to argue as they pulled up to do their practice starts.
