MTV EMA's: The Red Carpet Arrivals on Music's Biggest Night

The stars of the music world have been getting red carpet ready for their grand entrances at the MTV European Music Award's.

Nicki Minaj, who is hosting the star-studded music event, posed for a pre-show pic with her friends and members of her entourage.

The always affable Ed Sheeran stopped for some selfies with the fans, who had turned out for some star spotting at the Glasgow SSE Hydro.

US singer Ariana Grande couldn't hide her delight as the fans sang her own song Break Free back to her. Wearing a black gown with revealing cut-outs and swapping her trademark ponytail for a loose haired look, the singer said she felt a little bit exposed.

"My hair's down and I feel so naked like that," she admitted, adding that she 'can't wait' to see Nicki Minaj - the show's host - take to the stage.

Baywatch star David Hasselhoff is one of night's presenters and was caught backstage with Red Foo preparing for his appearance.

Charli XCX opted for a black and white ensemble covered in sequins, and unique pom-pom style heels as she took to the red carpet for the event which has a time travel theme.

Among the other stars expected to attend the event are U2, Alicia Keys, Enrique Iglesias, Kiesza and Royal Blood.

With nominations in seven categories Roar singer Katy Perry leads the nominations with Ariana Grande close behind with six. Pharrell Williams is up for five trophies, including best song and best video for his global hit Happy.

Black Sabbath's Ozzy Osbourne will be receive the EMA's Global Icon Award.

Calvin Harris has pulled out of the MTV European Music Awards after being "taken ill". The DJ will be unable to perform at the music event following concerns regarding a "heart problem."

The awards are being held in Glasgow for the first time in their 20-year history.
