The 23rd annual MTV Movie Awards is only hours away. And, as with any glamorous red carpet event, the night will be as much about the awards as the beautiful women in fashionable gowns and sexy dresses.

Over the years, the MTV Movie Awards night has seen a number of celebrities in sophisticated gowns and some others in crazy ensembles. In 1998, television personality and actress Carmen Electra made jaws drop when she hit the red carpet in a backless white gown. Not to be outdone, singer Lil' Kim's 2001 dress was daring and almost topless, leaving very little to the imagination.

More recent red carpet appearances have become a bit more conservative. In 2012, Kristen Stewart made a simple entrance at the event in a black, silver and lime Guishem dress and teamed it up with Christian Louboutin heels and a Repossi ring. The Twilight star sported a studiously styled tousled hair-do and smoky-eyed make-up.

As for the show, Emmy-winning comedian Conan O'Brien will host the event. Ellie Goulding, Zedd, Rihanna, and Eminem are among the performers.

Adding on, the late Fast & Furious star Paul Walker will be honoured at the 2014 MTV Movie Awards.
