Natalie Portman lured aboard private jet with just one double bed by Hollywood producer
Black Swan actor now views sexually-charged encounters differently after Harvey Weinstein allegations.
Natalie Portman has revealed that a Hollywood Producer once lured her onto a private jet with just one "double bed".
Portman was offered a lift by the unnamed producer whom she claimed had deceived her about how his entire team would be flying together. However, when she arrived, the actor was shocked to find that it was just the two of them on board the aircraft. She alleged: "There was just me, him and a double bed on a private jet."
It was too late to leave, but fortunately the 36-year-old Black Swan star says she was not subjected to any assault.
"Nothing happened. I said, 'This doesn't make me feel comfortable' and that was respected," Portman told the Mirror.
Portman admitted she had thought nothing of the incident at the time, but in retrospect, she says: "That was super not OK. That was really unacceptable and manipulative. I was scared."
She revealed she had been the victim of sexual harassment and gender discrimination on a number of occasions.
But it was only in the wake of recent uprising against movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, that she started seeing the incidents in a different light and decided she had to speak out.
The Oscar-winning actor said: "I think my first reaction when I heard everybody coming out was, 'Wow, I'm so lucky that I haven't had this.' And then, on reflection, I was like, 'OK, I definitely have never been assaulted. But I've had discrimination or harassment on almost everything I've ever worked on in some way.'"
She added: "I went from thinking I don't have a story to, 'Oh wait, I have 100 stories...'. I think a lot of people are having these reckonings with ourselves of things we just took as part of the process."
Talking about how prevalent sexual assaults was in Hollywood, Portman told the Mirror: "A lot of things that we just kind of put up with for reasons of maybe just being numb to it. But if you spent all your time reporting what was going on, that's all you would do as it's so pervasive. And yeah, it gets so built into the power struggles in every industry."
In recent months, influential Hollywood figures like Weinstein, Kevin Spacey, Sylvester Stallone and Dustin Hoffman have been accused of sexual misconduct. There have been over 50 cases against Weinstein and several against Spacey, one of which includes actor Anthony Rapp's allegation that the House of Cards actor assaulted him when he was just 14 years old.
