NCIS season 13: Michael Weatherly quits CBS series
NCIS actor Michael Weatherly has called it quits after playing special agent Anthony DiNozzo in the CBS series for 13 years. The actor, who has appeared in every episode since NCIS began in 2003, will leave the show after the season 13 finale.
CBS said in a statement, "He is a valued part of the CBS family, and the immense charm and talent he brings to the screen as 'Very' Special Agent Tony DiNozzo has helped make NCIS what it is today — the #1 drama in the world."
"We thank Michael for all of his contributions to this successful franchise and look forward to continuing to develop projects with him as part of our ongoing development deal," read the statement.
The actor himself took to Twitter and thanked fans for all the love and support in a heartfelt Twitter post. He wrote, "DiNozzo is a wonderful, quixotic character & I couldn't have had more fun playing him over the past 13 seasons."
Weatherly thanked CBS president in another tweet. He wrote, "Les Moonves [President and Chief Executive Officer of CBS Corporation] & CBS gave me the opportunity of a lifetime." He also thanked members of the cast and wrote that NCIS has been a fantastic ride. "I will miss the amazing crew & cast, who are like family to me, & to the fans all over the world - Thank You, it's been a fantastic ride!"
The actor will leave the NCIS by the end of season 13 and fans can still watch him play Tony DiNozzo in a few more episodes. The show revolves around a fictional team of special agents from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, which conducts criminal investigations involving the US Navy and Marine Corps.
