NCIS season 14 trailer shows Jennifer Esposito and Wilmer Valderrama as special agents
The new season of the crime drama is set to premiere on CBS on 20 September.
Michael Weatherly said goodbye to his role of agent Tony DiNozzo in season 13 of NCIS in May, and the show's producers filled the gap with not one but two new characters. Fans got a sneak peek of the characters of Mistresses actress Jennifer Esposito and That 70s Show's Wilmer Valderrama in the recent trailer for season 14.
Esposito is set to play Alexandra "Alex" Quinn while Valderrama enters as Nick Torres – both special agents joining the NCIS task force. The Yo Mamma host clarified that he is not being brought in to fill Weatherly's shoes.
"[Weatherly] had a fantastic journey with the show. The truth is there's no shoes to fill, I'm definitely wearing my own. I'm excited because as a new member of NCIS I get to bring a new energy to it, a different dynamic," Entertainment Weekly reported him as saying at the San Diego ComicCon.
Going by the trailer, Quinn is familiar with Gibbs and his work style, but Torres is new to the whole "team" scene. He is described as being the "best undercover ops", but confesses that he's "never been on a team before".
In a statement, executive producer Gary Glasberg said the role will allow Valderrama to "flex his dramatic, physical and comedic talents". He added, "Fans are going to see him like they've never seen him before. This is going to be fun. We're thrilled he's coming aboard."
Mentioned below are the plot details released by CBS for the first episode of the upcoming season:
Last season, NCIS, alongside the FBI and MI6, continued their international manhunt for disgraced agent Trent Kort, after his attack on NCIS Special Agent Ziva David. Following the incident, the Mossad Director revealed to Special Agent Tony DiNozzo that he and Ziva had a daughter together, and DiNozzo resigned to spend time with her. Also, the NCIS team successfully located and killed Trent Kort.
In the season premiere, the NCIS team investigates a deadly car explosion in D.C. that connects to NCIS Special Agent Nicholas "Nick" Torres (new cast member Wilmer Valderrama), who disappeared six months ago while on a deep undercover assignment in Argentina.
Also, Gibbs asks NCIS Special Agent Alexandra "Alex" Quinn (new cast member Jennifer Esposito) to shadow his team after rejecting eight agents she instructed and referred for the open agent position. Plus, Duane Henry joins the cast as MI6 Officer Clayton Reeves.
