New Xiaomi smartphone with Snapdragon 808 tipped to be released in third quarter
The recent release of the Xiaomi Mi 4i would be followed by another addition in company's smartphone line-up in the next few months.
Gizmochina quoting a Weibo post by well known Chinese analyst, Pan Jiutang reports a new Xiaomi smartphone powered with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 808 (MSM8992) SoC featuring a hexa-core processor might be released sometime in the third quarter of this year. This is the similar mobile application processor which LG is using for the G4.
Jiutang's post further suggests that the upcoming Xiaomi device would be priced between the Redmi and Mi series (between $209 and $242), which means it would have similar price tag like the Mi 4i, which uses octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor.
If the aforementioned report turns true then it would be interesting to see a new Xiaomi model with similar price like the Mi 4i, but with a powerful processor.
This information comes after reports about Xiaomi Mi Note Pro, powered with Snapdragon 810, overheating issues surfaced.
Xiaomi has clarified saying there is only one such Mi Note Pro unit experiencing the issue, where the owner of the device was unable to power it on for three hours after purchasing it. Xiaomi has then replaced the phone and the respective technicians examining the device have said that the motherboard was not burnt.
