New York Fashion Week: Fur Dominates 2014 Fall / Winter Collections
Day One of New York Fashion Week
Day One of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week kicked off in New York, as fashionistas and trend setters were treated to a glimpse of the 2014 Fall/Winter runway looks.
BCBGMAXAZRIA opened the event making a bold statement, with fur dominating the runway.
The svelte models were engulfed by oversized fur coats, hoods and trims that exuded Dr. Zhivago inspired glamour and opulence.
Fur accessories were ubiquitous in the Nicholas K show, with fur hoods and headpieces matched in stark contrast, with deep cut blouses, and low-cut pants, slung precariously below the hipbone.
Richard Chai's collection saw the models covered up in menswear-inspired layers and roomy jackets.
And while a dark colour palette inevitably dominated the runaway, there were bright pops of sunshine yellow and cool mint in the Creatures of the Wind show.
Wide lapels and long, buttoned coats in heavy browns and greys were a prominent feature in the Nicholas K Fall collection.
A highlight in the fashion calendar, New York Fashion Week will feature designers like Carolina Herrera, Monique Lhuillier, Nicole Miller, Naeem Khan.
The show, which is traditionally dominated by U.S. designers led by Marc Jacobs and Alexander Wang, will also feature emerging talents this season from Europe, Asia and, for the first time, Australia.
The most-anticipated event is Jacobs, who is expected to unveil his first collection since leaving Louis Vuitton.
Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week continues until February 13 at the Lincoln Centre.
