Nicki Minaj's Anaconda Makes History: Rapper Beats Michael Jackson's US Chart Record
It looks like provoking controversy isn't the only thing rapper Nicki Minaj is good at.
According to Yahoo, she has beaten Michael Jackson's US Chart Record with her new song Anaconda.
The single, which debuted at number 19, gives the hip hop star her 51st Billboard Hot 100 hit, surpassing the late King of Pop's 50.
Anaconda is Minaj's twentieth feature as the lead artist; her other 31 appearances are as guests. Jackson, by contrast, was either a lead or co-lead in all of his 50 Hot 100 hits.
If the Thriller hitmaker had elected to take credit for his feature on Rockwell's Somebody's Watching Me in or Diana Ross's Eaten Alive he could have maintained his Billboard crown.
Minaj celebrated the career milestone by taking to social media to thank fans for their support.
Minaj made her debut on the Billboard Hot 100 in February 2010 when she featured on Lil Wayne's song knockout. Just months later she charted as a lead with her song, Your Love.
Her chart success comes just weeks after the X-rated cover art for Anaconda, which shows the female entertainer in a squat position wearing a thong and trainers, raised eyebrows.
In an open letter Chuck Creekmur, the owner of AllHipHop.com urging the star to consider the young audience who listen to her music.
"I think you are dope, yet this gnaws at me, because I know you don't have to succumb to bottom feeding", he said.
