Norwegian coastguard rescues a trapped humpback whale
The Norwegian coastguard has released a video showing the crew of the ship NoCGV Heimdal rescuing a humpback whale from a tangled rope. The video shows the creature underwater with a large rope wound around a large section of its body.
The crew used a hook to gradually remove the cord. Lieutenant Commander Jimmy Haugland of the NoCGV Heimdal said that the whale was ultimately cut free and swam away unhurt from the incident.
Marine biologist and whale expert Audun Richardsen, who was on board, said: "The sheer size, physical fitness, and the way it swam away confirmed its survival and well-being of the incident." The whale was found off the coast of Kaldfjorden, just west of Tromso in Norway.
