Overview
World No 1 Djokovic returns to the Madrid Open for the first time since 2013. The Serb who won here in 2011 has been in dominant form this season. A quick glance at the rankings shows that he has a lead of 8,000 points over his nearest rival Andy Murray. The 28-year-old has won nine of his last 11 tournaments and will look to clinch what is one of the biggest tournaments of the year on clay.
Coric, 19, has enjoyed a solid if not spectacular 2016 but will look to improve his performance especially in Grand Slams and ATP Masters 1000 tournaments. His results in the bigger tournaments do not reflect his talent. While he still has a lot to learn, he can take confidence from the fact that he has beaten Rafael Nadal and Murray in the past.
