Overview
Djokovic comes into the final having made quick work of British number one Andy Murray, whom he beat 6-1, 6-3 in the semi-final to set up a clash with Tsonga. Djokovic broke Murray a total of five times in the game, while committing only seven unforced errors compared to Murray's 30. The game was over in just 67 minutes.
This was Djokovic's ninth win over Murray in their last 10 games and his most comprehensive in recent years. The Briton had beaten Djokovic to claim the Rogers Cup in August. Tsonga had a more difficult time against Rafael Nadal, having taken the first set with consummate ease after breaking the Spaniard in the fifth game. However, Nadal came back fighting and embarrassed Tsonga by taking the second set 6-0. However, the 16th seed kept his cool and broke Nadal in the 16th game in the third set to claim the match and move into his first Masters final since Toronto last year.
Nadal bowed out with a season to forget, having failed to make the final of any of the Grand Slams this season. His last win was in the French Open in 2014 since when he has fallen back in the face of Djokovic's dominance.
