Djokovic made it to the second round of the US Open after defeating Diego Schwartzman in straight sets on Tuesday. Since it's a Grand Slam event - the fourth of the year - the match ended in three sets.
The World No 1 registered a comfortable victory over Schwartzman as he won the first round tie 6-1, 6-2, 6-4. He will be hoping to continue the same form against his Thursday's opponent at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Meanwhile, Mathieu had to work hard to make it to the second round of the ongoing competition as he registered a victory over Gilles Muller on Tuesday. The 32-year-old saw the tie end in a five set thriller as the Luxembourgish tennis star gave a tough fight in the first match of the US Open.
Mathieu defeated Muller in a game where four of the five sets were decided on a tiebreaker. The match ended in the Frenchman's favour in the end as he won 6-7, 7-5, 7-6, 6-7, 6-1.
