Ocean's Eleven all-female reboot: Helena Bonham Carter, Elizabeth Banks and Mindy Kaling all linked
News recently emerged Cate Blanchett had been in talks to star in a reboot of Ocean's Eleven and not only has that now been confirmed, but the announcement also revealed many more actresses have been cast. According to Showbiz 411, Helena Bonham Carter, Elizabeth Banks and Mindy Kaling have joined the all-female version of the crime thriller.
Sandra Bullock is already on board and will reportedly play Danny Ocean's (George Clooney in the previous trilogy) ex-con sister, who enlists the help of her right-hand woman (Blanchett, playing the equivalent of Brad Pitt's Rusty) to make up a team of thieves. Her planned mission? To steal a valuable necklace from the Met Ball in order to frame a villainous gallery owner.
Oscar-winner Jennifer Lawrence was linked to the film earlier this year, but her busy filming schedule meant that she could not commit to filming. It had previously been speculated Clooney might make a cameo appearance in the film, however that idea has apparently been shelved. Shooting is expected to begin in New York this Autumn, but there is no official release date yet.
The Hunger Games' Gary Ross is set to direct the picture - whose working title is currently Ocean's Ocho, according to Den Of Geek. Screenwriter Olivia Milch (Dude) is set to pen the script. Considering that the previous movies based on the 1960s film of the same name have each had titles that corresponded to the number of prominent characters they feature, it seems fair to assume that this picture is aiming to have eight protagonists.
For the moment, Bonham Carter, Banks and Kaling's roles on screen are unknown. The former can currently be seen in Disney sequel Alice Through The Looking Glass while the latter is gearing up for another season of her comedy sitcom The Mindy Project. Banks will next be seen as villain Rita Repulsa in Power Rangers and Pitch Perfect 3.
