Once upon a time season 4 returns on 1 March: Tables are turned for Emma and Hook; what will happen in episode 13
ABC's hit fairy tale series is on a long hiatus and will returns with its midseason premiere episode on 1 March, 2015.
Episode 13 is titled, Darkness on the Edge of Town, which will see the return of Dark queens in Storybrooke.
In the midseason finale Rumple (Robert Carlyle) was banished from Storybrooke by his wife, Belle after she discovered his betrayal. Robin Hood and Regina's happy ending was lost, as Hood had to leave Storybrooke with wife Marian to save her life.
Emma and Hook
Emma and Hook's relationship will showcased in season 4 and the fallout from the lies he told Emma, when he was under Rumple's control.
Series co-creator Adam Horowitz told Tvline that when season 4 arrives "the tables are turned", for the Storybrooke lovebirds when, "Hook, after having Emma return his heart, will now have to fight to protect Emma's heart."
Kitsis said: "I think he kind of has a pass on that. He's tried really hard to do the right thing, and we're excited: we're going to get more into his back story in the second half. And what's fun is he and Emma are [now] a couple, so we're going to watch them grow."
Darkness Queen arrival
Another major spoiler is about the arrival of the Queens of Darkness, Cruella De Vil (Victoria Smurfit), sea monstress Ursula (Merrin Dungey) and Maleficent (Kristin Bauer).
Kitsis and Horowitz are also confirmed that Cruella de Vil will have magical power "that deals with animals", and the Queens of Darkness will all have "a very interesting connection" to Snow White and Prince Charming.
Horowitz explained, "The traditional Cruella from the classic animated movie has been a jumping off point for our own rendition. If viewers watch what we have in store, you'll see that while honoring some of the history behind the character, we're putting a twist on Cruella's background that involves the Enchanted Forest and a dollop of magic."
Rumple and Regina's quest to find the author
Rumple and Regina will cross paths again when the series returns in March.
Kitsis told Tvline that Regina might live to regret telling Rumple about her storybook author theory.
Kitsis said, "It's setting them on a collision course. As we saw in that [car] scene last night, Regina laid out to him, 'Villains don't get a happy ending, so I'm going to find this author,' and he said 'That's bulls–t. Watch me take one."
He continued, "Well, that blew up in his face, and now he is a man without magic in a land where he is very much not in control, so he's beginning to see what she said. He has reached a point in his life where he is now asking for help, he can't do it alone, and he thinks that Regina is on to something."
Rumple and Belle
Despite Rumbelle ending the fall finale on bad terms, there is obviously still some love between the two.
Creators Kitsis and Adam Horowitz said: "Rumple and Belle's love story isn't over".
"Rumple let us know in Season 1 that he's a difficult man to love. And he's let us know that he always chooses power over love, that is his fault. But he began the season with honorable intentions - he really was going to give Belle the knife - but when he saw the [Sorcerer's] hat, that made him realize, 'I did the noble thing and it ended up with my son dying and me being a slave. So if I can never have to wake up and worry about someone getting my dagger, why can't I have everything?' And as he learned, you can't," Kitsis explained.
Horowitz added, "Rumple and Belle have been through a lot together, and despite how it may have felt in the midseason finale, their story is not over."
