One Direction star Harry Styles reportedly called time on his two-month romance with Taylor Swift because he still had feelings for rumoured former flame Cara Delevingne, it has emerged.

It had been reported that Swift gave the 18-year-old star his marching orders during a big fight in the Virgin Islands in early January after she was said to have found texts on his phone from other girls.

But fresh claims suggest that it was not the We are Never Ever Getting Back Together hitmaker, but Styles himself who ended things because he was still hung up on Burberry model Delevingne.

He is believed to have thought that being single would increase his chance of rekindling his romance with Delevingne after the duo exchanged text messages over the holidays, sources said.

"Harry's still smitten by her [Cara's] upmarket background, her fun lifestyle and her socialite world. It's a different world from Harry's and he wants to know what it's like from the inside. The man usually gets the girl but this one has eluded Harry and he hasn't given up," an insider told Yahoo OMG.

"Cara likes Harry a lot but at the moment she's put her career and ambition first. They're still in touch and Harry wants her back," continued the source.

In November Styles, who previously dated Xtra Factor host Caroline Flack, sent the rumour mill into overdrive when he called Cara "the one".

While speculation continues to mount, fashion's hottest It Girl has remained coy about her any relationship with Styles.

"I know Harry, he's a good friend. The thing is that everyone's been linked to him," she told Grazia. "Alexa [Chung], Pixie [Geldof], we've all been around him and then, 'Aah, they're going out.'"
