OnePlus 2: Next-gen smartphone could be released in July 2015, handset expected to cost $322
It was known that OnePlus 2, clearly the most expected smartphone of the year, would launch during Q3 2015, although there was no concrete information regarding its exact launch date.
Now, a new report suggests that the OnePlus 2 could be unveiled as early as the first half of Q3 2015, that is July 2015.
According to a GizmoChina report, that in turn quotes a report published in Chinese portal MyDrivers, (considered a reliable source of smartphone pre-release information), OnePlus 2 will be officially launched during an event to be held in July 2015.
As of now, there have been reports about OnePlus scheduling an event for 28 June in Hong Kong, during which the OnePlus 2 smartphone would be released.
However, by analysing the latest My Drivers report (via Gizmo China), one can conclude that there is every possibility that OnePlus could make public details of its next-gen smartphone during this event, rather than launching the device itself.
The details could include the list of technical specifications that the handset will come incorporated with and the actual launch date.
This is especially so as the OnePlus is yet to officially announce the list of key technical specifications that its OnePlus 2 will feature.
Besides, yet another aspect that has surfaced via the MyDrivers portal is that the OnePlus 2 is still going to be an affordable smartphone contrary to earlier rumours that hinted that users would have to shell out a premium for the handset.
MyDrivers opines that OnePlus 2 will get a price tag of $322 (£207, ¥1990, Rs 20,000). This price-tag should do well to complement the expected high-end nature of the smartphone.
OnePlus, post launching OnePlus 2, is also said to be launching another smartphone during the end of 2015.
However, the star attraction will undoubtedly be OnePlus 2 as the device will come with OnePlus' own in-house Oxygen OS featuring a simple and flat UI.
As of now, technical aspects of OnePlus 2 have not surfaced officially, but rumours suggest that the handset can be expected to feature the following key technical specifications:
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor
- 5.5in display with comparatively better resolution than the current-gen OnePlus One
- Android 5.0
- 4GB RAM onboard
- 3300 mAh battery
