'Police brutality' caught on camera turned out to be a clueless crook punching himself in the face time and again.

Aleksander Robin Tomaszewski, 33, tried to turn the tables on cops in Lake County, Oregon, by filing a complaint of assault against officers after they arrested him.

But CCTV revealed the real origin of Tomaszewski's facial injuries was none other than the man himself, inside a police cell.

He was filmed repeatedly striking himself in the face, before sitting down and doing it all again.

Tomaszewski apparently thought pretending the police inflicted the injuries would help him escape a jail term, a police spokesman said.

But his antics had the opposite effect - landing him in prison for 20 days for initiating a false report and a $500 (£324) fine.
