The Mikaelson family drama in The Originals season 3 is going to get even more terrifying with the return of Klaus's ex-flame Aurora. In the previous episode, Klaus learned that it was Elijah who compelled Aurora to break his heart a thousand years ago, so the family could flee the country without her. And things went downhill for the Mikaelson brothers from there.

The upcoming episode is titled, Beautiful Mistake, which will air next Thursday (12 November) at 9pm EST on The CW. The official synopsis reads as follows:

When Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Freya (Riley Voelkel) realize that Rebekah may be the target of The Strix's latest plan, they do whatever it takes to protect her. Elsewhere, Klaus (Joseph Morgan) spends time with Aurora (guest star Rebecca Breeds) to figure out where her loyalties lie, while a dangerous run-in with a member of The Strix leads Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) and Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) to make an unsettling discovery. Finally, an elaborate scheme created by Lucien (guest star Andrew Lees) leaves Cami (Leah Pipes) faced with a difficult decision to make and Detective Kinney (guest star Jason Dohring) fighting for his life.

Executive producer Michael Narducci described Aurora as "the ex-girlfriend from hell" and teased about episode 6 in an interview with Zap2it. He said: "This woman from (Klaus's) past returns and puts the family at odds when it needs to be most related," adding that there is still "insane chemistry" between the two people "when it doesn't work out in a major way".

Speaking about Elijah's betrayal, Narducci said: "Now, we've found out there's a sin from Elijah's past. It sure makes sense as to why Elijah has been loyal to his reckless brother all these years. Because of guilt? It's now clear that the noble and beautiful Elijah is flawed."

"This relationship," Narducci explains, "brothers, despite their conflicts, they need to stand together." The producer continued: "In episode 6, we get to see everyone we care about and love put in extreme jeopardy. It will "end with the single most frightening, most chilling, and most romantic, and most sexy ending."
