Oscar Pistorius has been found not guilty of charges relating to a stash of illegal ammunition found at his home by police investigating the killing of Reeva Steenkamp.

Officers investigating Pistorius' property found a total of 38 bullets, which Pistorius did not have a licence to own. However Judge Thokozile Masipa said there was an absence of intention in Pistorius' actions.

During the trial, prosecutor Gerrie Nel had "made much" of Pistorius' father Henk refusing to provide an alibi for his son, who claimed he was merely looking after them.

"State made much of the case that the accused's father refused to make an affidavit. In my view, that does not assist the state" said Masipa.

"The fact there's no corroboration does not assist at all. The state has failed to prove the accused to had the animus to possess the ammunition."
