Palestinian authorities have cancelled a meeting with Israeli peace negotiators due on Monday in retaliation for the killing of three Palestinians by Israeli security forces in the occupied West Bank's refugee camp of Qalandiya, near the city of Ramallah.

A Palestinian Authority (PA) official told AFP that the meeting, supposed to take place in Jericho, was shelved because of the raid at the camp - which also left 15 people wounded.

Clashes between Israeli forces and Palestinians erupted after officers on a raid to catch terrorist suspects were confronted by 1,500 Palestinians who attacked them with firebombs and rocks.

Israeli police spokeswoman Luba Samri said Israeli forces used anti-riot weapons such as rubber bullets and tear gas to disperse the crowd.

Palestinian sources said that Rubeen Abed Fares, 30, Yunis Jahjouh, 22, and Jihad Aslan, 20 were killed by Israeli forces.

Palestinian prime minister Rami Hamdallah condemned the raid. "Such a crime proves the need for an urgent and effective international protection for our people,'' he said in a statement.

Israel and Palestinians resumed US-brokered peace talks last month after a long interlude.
