Overview
The first Test in Abu Dhabi ended in a draw as both teams had a massive first innings total. Pakistan won the toss and Misbah-ul-Haq elected to bat first. The Asian side posted a total of 523 runs, with a double hundred from Shoaib Malik and a century from Asad Shafiq.
In reply, England declared after scoring 598 runs, while losing nine wickets in the process. Skipper Alastair Cook was the star man for the Three Lions as the opening left-handed batsman's 263 runs helped the English side get a lead.
Pakistan were bowled out for 173 runs in the second inning as Adil Rashid picked up five wickets, while James Anderson and Moeen Ali bagged two wickets each.
A victory for either of the sides will see them avoid a series defeat and also put in a firm position to win the three-match series. England will be pushing for a win, while Pakistan will be looking to avoid a batting collapse in the second Test, starting from Thursday.
