Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week: Creations by Dior, Giambattista Valli, Alexis Mabille & Christophe Josse Rule Day Two [PHOTOS]
A number of high profile designers showcased their Fall/Winter 2012-2013 creations on the second day of the Paris Haute Couture fashion week at The Ritz on Monday. The fashion week hosted by the French captial began on Sunday with a Versace show, saw some colorful and floral couture on the second day.
Belgian designer Raf Simons, who replaced John Galliano as creative director at French high-end fashion brand Christian Dior in April, showed his debut collection at the Paris Haute Couture. Simons' creations focused on and drew inspiration from post-war and period dresses of the 1940s with modern touches. Most of the Dior dresses were made of a bodice tightly held at the waist and a skirt with much fabric to create effortless pleats. The dresses provided the silhouette look. Simons called the collection "Flower Women", since each dress colour was inspired by that of various petals and some even used a mix of hues, making a dramatically new colour altogether.
Competing with Dior's "Flower Women" collection were sleek evening gowns and chic, figure-hugging short dresses, mostly in white and black, by French designer Christophe Josse. Meanwhile, another French designer, Alexis Mabille, showcased a collection that featured dresses designed with high-quality shimmering fabric, ideal for parties.
The best of French couture competed with creations from Italian designer Donatella Versace, who is also the vice-president of the Versace Group. The latter's works hit the runway with a bang on the opening day of Paris Haute Couture and, on the second day, another Italian designer - Giambattista Valli - continued the spirit of innovative designing.
Valli's haute couture of lightweight silk organza and muslin was inspired largely by the flora, for the collection featured green coloured ruffle dresses and feathered evening gowns along with red dresses covered in rose prints. In fact, the designer named one of the dresses as Wild Grass, while the models presenting the creation donned a garden ensemble with butterflies on their head and mouth.
