Fast and Furious star Vin Diesel has described an emotional meeting with Paul Walker's mother following the death of the actor on Saturday (30 November).

40-year-old Walker, who starred in six of the Fast & Furious films, was killed when the 2005 Porsche Carrera GTe he was a passenger in, smashed into a lamp-post and a tree before bursting into flames.

Writing on Facebook, Diesel said that on hearing of Walker's death he flew back to California and "went directly from the plane to his (Walker's) mother's house," intending to offer support to the family in their hour of grief.

"I thought they needed my strength, but realised when I got there and broke down before his family, that it was I who needed theirs," he wrote.

"His mother hugged me and said 'I am so sorry' ... I said: 'Sorry? You're the mother who lost a son?'... She said: 'Yes, but you lost your other half'."

Referring to him by his Fast and Furious character's name, he paid tribute to Walker, saying: "I will always love you Brian, as the brother you were ... on and off screen".

The National Enquirer recently attempted to cast doubt on the close relationship between the two stars, reporting that Diesel and Walker's friendship was "a total farce."

Representatives of the 46-year-old actor have slammed the claims by the publication as "horrifyingly insensitive and disrespectful," and stated that the report "couldn't be further from the truth."

Other Fast & Furious co-stars have also spoken of their profound sense of loss following Walker's death.

Michelle Rodriguez, who played Letty, started out in the film franchise with Walker in 2001. She had been filming scenes for Fast & Furious 7 with the actor, prior to his death.

Writing on Twitter she said: "I'm gonna carry this torch for you brother, with a forced smile on my face and I'm gonna open my heart just cause your telling me to."

Co-star Tyrese Gibson was visibly distraught as he visited the scene of the crash.

Universal Pictures have released a moving two-minute tribute video to Walker, with links to Walker's Reach Out Worldwide (ROWW) charity.

Paul Walker's family have asked, in lieu of flowers or gifts, that donations be made to Paul's charity Reach Out Worldwide (ROWW) through their website at https://roww.org/.
