Payday 2: Overkill will support co-op crime FPS until 2017
Developers Overkill Software have announced plans to continue supporting Payday 2 until 2017 ahead of the release of remastered PS4 and Xbox One version of the game later this year.
In a statement on Payday 2's Steam Community page Overkill said: "We are very excited about this. We love working on Payday 2 and look forward taking care of our game for two more years, making new free updates, paid DLC's and awesome campaigns together with the community.
"This is possible because we signed a new deal together with our publishing partner 505 Games. Thanks to them, we can continue focusing on making PAYDAY 2 better and better."
Originally released in 2013, Payday 2 has been constantly updated with a sizeable amount of downloadable content, a lot of which will be included for free in the remastered Crimewave Edition. This includes the Armoured Transport, Big Bank Heist and Gage Assault updates and packs.
Overkill's ongoing support of the game – as well as the faith publisher 505 Games clearly has in them – is a great sign of the series' health. As of November 2014 the game had sold in excess of 9 million units, which is hopefully indication of success ahead of the new-gen version.
Payday 2: Crimewave Edition will be released for PS4 and Xbox One in June.
