The death of a four month of baby who was mauled to death by a dog is not being treated as a criminal incident, Essex Police said.
Archie Joe Darby died after being attacked by the dog at a house in Colchester, Essex, on 13 October.
His toddler brother, Daniel-Jay, was seriously injured in the attack, and his mother suffered minor injuries.
According to reports the owner of the dog is the children's aunt, Clare Ferdinand, 31, a serving Essex Police officer. The force has not confirmed the claim.
It said it is not carrying out a criminal investigation into the incident.
"We are carrying out an investigation into the circumstances of this tragic incident. It is not a criminal investigation and it not likely to be in the future.
"Our officers are supporting the family during this horrendously difficult time for them, as is right for police to do so."
The dog, reported to be a Staffordshire bull terrier, was put down after the attack with the consent of the owner.
