Police search for young woman seen being throttled in suspected abduction in London
Witnesses say the woman may have been forced to get into a car with other men.
Police in east London have released CCTV footage showing a man throttling a woman moments before witnesses claim she was abducted. Detectives are appealing for information following concerns for the welfare of the woman who was seen being manhandled in an East Ham street.
The incident happened at approximately 8.45pm on Monday (3 October) at Plashet Grove, near the junction with High Street North, East Ham. Footage shows the man and woman arguing and with the former pushing the latter and grabbing her around the neck.
The pair are believed to be Eastern European. The man is described as white, in his 20s, of stocky build with short hair and a clean cut appearance. He is approximately 5ft 7ins and had a square shaped face. He was talking on a mobile phone during the incident.
The woman is described as white, in her 30s, of slim build with reddish, curly hair. She is approximately 5ft 3ins and was wearing jeans, a striped top and a brown jacket.
Witnesses who have spoken to police say two other males join the couple in Plashet Grove before walking in the direction of Katherine Road. The group flagged down a car which the witnesses state the woman may have been forced to get into. At least two of the men also got in the car.
Police believe the car was a grey or silver coloured four door hatchback, possibly a VW Golf. Although there is nothing at this stage to suggest the woman has come to harm, police are keen to identify and locate those involved in this incident.
Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is asked to call Newham Police on 07747 780610 or 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
