World's Ten Poorest Countries Revealed [SLIDESHOW]

Financial news service provider 24/7 Wall St. has compiled a list of the world's ten poorest countries, based on data from the World Bank.

The journal's analysts examined the most recent World Bank data relating to Gross Domestic Product (GDP), GDP per capita, the prevalence of HIV/AIDS, life expectancy, unemployment, infant mortality and primary school enrolment, in 112 developing countries.

These countries have the highest proportion of the population living below the poverty line in the world, and the least stable economic, health and education systems. The countries' literacy rates are among the worst in the world, too, with some providing primary education for less than 50 percent of their children. These countries also report very low life expectancy and rising numbers of HIV cases.

"24/7 Wall St. analysed how the most impoverished nations ranked in several key areas ranging from level of peace to economic stability, health and education. The poorest countries consistently performed poorly in nearly every case," the journal reports.

"Five of the eight countries for which data are available were in the top 25 (out of more than 200 countries) for HIV cases among people [aged] 15 to 49. These include Zimbabwe, which has the fifth-highest HIV/AIDS prevalence rate at 14.3 percent, and Swaziland, which has the highest recorded rate at 25.9 percent," analysts explained. "In each of these countries, life expectancy is less than 60 years. In four of these countries, the average resident will not live to see 50."

In addition, these are also countries with limited resources, a high number of recent natural disasters and armed conflict, according to the journal.
