Power Rangers movie: Twitter users slam the use of 'breast plates' and 'heels' in female suits
Power Rangers have unveiled the first look of their new suits from the upcoming 2017 reboot, with fans having mixed reactions. Fans took to Twitter to slam the use of "breast plates" and "heels" for female rangers costume.
Yellow Ranger Trini and Pink Ranger Kimberly sported a suit similar to the other crime-fighting teenagers, almost like the Iron Man suit in Marvel movies, but the wedges and boob armour didn't bode well with some of the fans.
Nevertheless, some fans were delighted at the suits and took to Twitter to share their excitement.
Speaking about the costume, production designer Andrew Menzies told Entertainment Weekly: "It's tricky finding a new language for a superhero costume. Ours is an alien costume that grows on them, that's not man-made. You can't win everyone over, but we are trying to appeal to a more mature audience and gain new fans."
The reboot follows five ordinary high school children who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove — and the world — is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late.
The Lionsgate/Saban movie stars singer Becky G as Yellow Ranger Trini, Ludi Lin as Black Ranger Zack, Dacre Montgomery as Red Ranger Jason, Naomi Scott as Pink Ranger Kimberly, and RJ Cyler as Blue Ranger Billy. Elizabeth Banks will take on the role of Power Rangers villain Rita Repulsa.
The movie comes out on 24 March 2017 in the US.
