US President Barack Obama is not a fan of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and does not think he has a chance of winning the presidency. The president shared his thoughts about the upcoming presidential election, saying he believes the American people know getting into the White House "is not a reality show".

"I continue to believe Mr Trump will not be president," Obama said at the end of the US-Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit in Rancho Mirage, California. "And the reason is because I have a lot go faith in the American people. And I think they recognise that being president is a serious job."

He continued: "It's not hosting a talk show or a reality show. it's not promotion, it's not marketing. It's hard. And a lot of people count on us getting it right." The president also noted that foreign observers are concerned about some of the rhetoric being expressed during the various GOP debates. The bombastic real estate mogul is known for making controversial comments about immigration and even shared a plan to temporarily ban all Muslims from entering the country.

According to NBC News, Obama said the post was too important for a candidate who did not have the knowledge or temperament to deal with foreign powers. "It requires being able to work with leaders around the world in a way that reflects the importance of the office, and gives people confidence that you know the facts, and you know their names, and you know where they are on a map, and you know something about their history—and you're not just going to play to the crowd back home, because they have their own crowds back home, and you're trying to solve problems," the president said.

"And so, yeah, during primaries people vent and they express themselves, and it seems like entertainment, and often lot of times it's reported just like entertainment—but as you get closer, reality has a way of intruding," Obama concluded.

Trump responds with Obama 'has done such a lousy job as president'

Trump was asked about the president's comments during a campaign event in Beaufort, South Carolina, The Washington Post reported. "He has done such a lousy job as president," Trump responded. "You look at our budgets, you look at our spending, we can't beat Isis, Obamacare is terrible—we're going to terminate it, we're absolutely going to terminate it. And you look at everything, our borders are like Swiss cheese, this man has done such a bad job, he has set us back so far, and for him to say that is actually a great compliment."

The GOP frontrunner is currently campaigning and preparing for the 20 February primary in South Carolina. All recent polls in the second primary state show Trump ahead by double digits. The latest South Carolina House GOP poll released on 15 February revealed Trump leads with 33%. He is followed in second place by Marco Rubio with 16% and in third place by Ted Cruz and John Kasich at 14%.
