Queer Wonder Woman a possibility on screen? Gal Gadot teases a 'bisexual' superhero in future
'She's a woman who loves people for who they are,' said Gadot about her warrior princess character.
Wonder Woman comics aficionados were recently treated to a major surprise when it was revealed that the DC superhero was actually bisexual after being raised on the island of Themyscira, which is only populated by women. With the stirring news surfacing ahead of the 2017 premiere of the DC movie, Wonder Woman actress Gal Gadot addressed the sexuality of her character in a recent interview.
Speaking with Variety, Gadot assured that her warrior princess character is not queer in the movie. But considering the recent circumstances and the comics' background, the Batman v Superman actress asserted that Wonder Woman can very well be bisexual.
"It's [bisexuality] not something we've explored. It never came to the table, but when you talk theoretically about all the women on Themyscira and how many years she was there, then what he said makes sense," Gadot said about the recent revelations made by writer Greg Rucka Wonder Woman's sexuality.
"In this movie she does not experience any bisexual relationships. But it's not about that. She's a woman who loves people for who they are. She can be bisexual. She loves people for their hearts," she added.
Gadot, who debuted as the Amazonian warrior in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice directed by Zack Snyder, is all set to reprise her role as Diana Prince in the first female-fronted DC superhero movie. The 31-year-old Israeli actress also dished on Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins' version of the plot.
"We cared a lot about simplifying Wonder Woman's agenda, because it is simple. It was her heart that we cared about, not her being this warrior. When you tell a story from the heart, all of us can relate, because all of us want to live in a safe, quiet, and peaceful world," Gadot said.
Wonder Woman hits theatres on 2 June 2017.
