Overview
Nadal began his Monte-Carlo Masters campaign with a comfortable win against Teymuraz Gabashvili in the second round on Wednesday.
The World No 1 needed 73 minutes to send the Russian packing from the competition registering a, 6-4, 6-1, victory in straight sets.
The 27-year-old Spaniard is hunting for his ninth crown in Monte-Carlo and now faces Seppi in the third round.
The Italian overcame Nadal's compatriot Pablo Andujar in the second round needing three sets to emerge victorious.
The 30-year-old won the first set, 7-6 (5), in the tiebreaker but failed to seal his victory after losing, 5-7, in the second set. However, Seppi maintained his composure in the deciding set to overcome Andujar, 6-4, thus securing his progress.
Seppi had earlier defeated 13<sup>th seed, Mikhail Youzhny in the first round, 6-3, 7-6 (4).
Nadal is one of the strong favourites to win the trophy this year but Seppi will be keen to cause an upset and deflate the 13-time Grand Slam winner.
The winner of this third round clash will face the winner between Grigor Dimitrov and David Ferrer in the quarterfinals on Friday.

Nadal holds a 4-1 lead against Seppi in overall meetings. They have never faced each other in a Grand Slam event.
The Spaniard holds a 4-1 lead in the last five meetings between the pair.
