Overview
Nadal, who looks like he is back to his best, faces his biggest test of the Barcelona Open so far. His 6-3, 6-3 win over Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber in the semi-final helped him move into his 101st career final and the second straight one on clay this month. A win here will give the 29-year-old his ninth Barcelona Open title and should he prevail on Sunday, he would earn a record 49th career clay-court crown tying with Guillermo Vilas.
Defending champion Nishikori too is in the best of his form. The 26-year-old beat Benoit Paire 6-2, 6-3 in the semi-final to reach his third straight Barcelona Open final.
The Japanese-born player has now won 13 sets in a row at Barcelona. Based on form, both players have shown that there is no favourite in this clash, making it one of the most awaited encounters in recent times.
