Rare Martiana pink diamond set to fetch at least $8m
They're said to a girl's best friend. Diamonds, of course! And if you've got a spare $12 million knocking around, then this little baby could be your best friend too.
People in the know are saying that all 12.04 carats of this PINK diamond could fetch at least $8m at an auction at Christie's in Hong Kong at the end of this month. It's one of only 2 in the world. It's sitting here all cosy next to a clear one (a baby at just 11.85 carat which might only get around $1.7m!)
The Martian Pink as it's called is the big draw of a haul of more than 300 pieces of jewellery the auction house is putting up for sale. May Lim is from Christies: "It's the largest diamond, round pink diamond, ever to appear in auction history. So why is this pink diamond so out of the ordinary? Because in 1976 the collector that actually bought the diamond, bought it from Harry Winston and that was the same year the United States launched the Martian Exhibition and to commemorate this event, Harry Winston decided to name this diamond the Martian Pink."
It's one of only two in the world. The other is the 23.60-carat Williamson Pink diamond, which was presented to our very own Queen Elizabeth II back in 1947 as a wedding present!
