The ridiculous Cristiano Ronaldo statue has been turned into a mural

The amazing Cristiano Ronaldo bust was the statue that launched a thousand memes – and now it has been turned into a wall mural by an Australian artist.

Lushsux is a Melbourne-based artist who is known for his controversial and provocative murals and paintings on the streets.

He has previously painted figures including Taylor Swift, Kanye West and Melania Trump, but has now had a go at reincarnating the fantastic Ronaldo statue.

Lushsux posted a photo of his mural to his Facebook page alongside the caption: "Here is my stunningly masterful rendition of the legend Cristiano Ronaldo."

Fashioned by sculptor Emanuel Santos, the original Ronaldo bust appeared at Madeira's newly-named Aeroporto Cristiano Ronaldo in Funchal last week.

Santos was chosen to recreate an image of the player and spent three weeks working on the masterpiece before it was cast in bronze on the Portuguese mainland.

It was unveiled last Wednesday by Portugal's president Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, launching thousands of memes.
