Rita Ora quits The X Factor: Beyoncé row, 50 Shades role and Roc Nation dispute could be to blame
Rita Ora is singing a requiem to her stint on The X Factor as a judge. The Kosovan-born star is following in the footsteps of Cheryl Fernandez-Versini by confirming she will not return to the talent show on her Twitter profile. It comes as a surprise since Ora was reportedly lured away from The Voice UK with the prospect of unlimited clothes, luxury travel and a £1.5 million contract. So why is she throwing in the towel after just one series?
Ora, who joined The X Factor last year, tweeted today (10 May): "I had a ball on The X Factor last year and will miss the team.
"@simoncowell can't wait to work with you again... I'll be round for dinner soon. Thank you for the experience & love X" she added.
The news comes after Fernandez-Versini and Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw pulled out of negotiations, along with presenters Caroline Flack and Olly Murs, leaving Simon Cowell the only remaining personality from last year's line-up. There will be a familiar face in the upcoming series as Dermot O'Leary returns to host the show after quitting in 2015.
A statement from ITV read: "Rita brought a great energy to the show last year and did a brilliant job mentoring the girls' category, leading Louisa to victory. We wish her all the best with her music and film plans for the rest of the year." But why is she leaving so soon?
Beyoncé has got her fizzing like Lemonade
Ora has been in the headlines for her personal life in recent weeks as she's been accused of being 'Becky with the good hair' in a lyric referencing Jay-Z's infidelity on Beyoncé's new record, Lemonade. The Hot Right Now hitmaker attempted to put out the fire by posting a cosy snap with Mrs Carter at the Met Gala last week, captioning the shot, 'Family' with a love heart. So she could be eschewing tabloid media attention and television gigs in a bid to redeem her image as a serious musician.
She's throwing Shade for her Hollywood career
Along with new music releases, Ora could be taking time away from the talent show to concentrate on her blossoming Hollywood career. Though she merely had one line in the 50 Shades of Grey movie as Mia Grey, the peroxide-blonde singer is set to star in the two sequels of the raunchy trilogy, after the news came from Sony Pictures emails that were released by Wikileaks. Her US agent Franklin Latt wrote: "Rita, 23, will appear in Universal's upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey playing the role of "Mia Grey" and will appear in the next two instalments of the movie."
Another Voice is beckoning her
There are also a few rumours flying around that Ora could be making a sensational return to The Voice UK, two years after leaving the BBC show that is now moving to ITV. After becoming embroiled in lawsuits with her record company, she is apparently sought after by the producers of The Voice two years after her departure, with a source telling The Daily Star: "Rita is one of the hottest properties in entertainment so it is no surprise The Voice producers want her back. They were devastated when she moved to X Factor last year. But now it looks like she won't be doing the next series, it means they've got a chance of poaching her."
Jay-Z is no longer her Roc
Following numerous lawsuits between her and former mentor Jay-Z's record label Roc Nation, it has also been said that Ora may have to shelve almost 100 unreleased songs, so perhaps she is in more of a pickle than we think. Ora might need time away from the limelight to sort her music career out as she decided to sue Jay-Z's label after she stated that her relationship with the company had been "irrevocably damaged". They have since launched their own counter suit accusing her of violating her contract and she could allegedly have to give up as many as 100 unreleased songs. A source also told The Daily Star: "Rita is always recording and made almost 100 tracks over the past three years that may never come out."
