Overview

Federer, one of the greatest players of all time, takes on a rookie on Wednesday, in what is a clash between two players of different ages. Back to world number two despite missing a number of tournaments due to injuries, Federer's presence on the court is enough to bring fans to the stadium.

The 34-year-old missed last week's Madrid Open due to a back injury and comes into this clash needing to shake off that rust. He will need to get into groove quickly if he has to make any headway at the Rome Masters.

Hailed as a "possible world number one and Grand Slam champion" by Rafael Nadal, Zverev possesses confidence and maturity beyond his years. The last two seasons have been a mixed bag for the player but he has shown glimpses of his talent, making two ATP semi-finals on different surfaces.

He will come into this clash as the underdog but the world number 44 does have the ability to beat the Swiss maestro on his day.
